THE EPIC HORSE SALE
Established by industry leaders Mark Haywood and Tim McCarthy, the Epic Horse Sale set out to celebrate horsemanship and deliver real results. In its early years, Daniel and Rachel South carried that vision forward, providing the stewardship that strengthened its foundation and kept the event alive through its challenges. The turning point came in 2021, when the move to Armidale — with its undercover arena and access to large lines of well-handled, vendor-bred cattle — gave the Epic the stage it needed to flourish, transforming what began as an ambitious idea into one of the nation’s most respected horse sales.
Since then, the Epic has set a new standard: an event renowned for the calibre of horses presented, the quality of competition, and the loyalty it inspires from some of the nation’s finest horsemen and women.
At its helm are Bruce and Prue Birch together with Blake and Holly O’Reilly — horse people through and through, who bring their own record of success as agents and competitors. Their leadership combines lived experience in the equine world with the standards and expertise of the APL Group.
Looking ahead, the Epic continues to build on its legacy — expanding its reach, delivering results, and setting new benchmarks for Australian horse sales.
